Saturday, Jan. 5 is Christmas Tree recycle day in Ashland and Talent.
Ashland Boy Scout Troop 112 - with help from the Ashland Lions - will pick up trees throughout the city from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Trees should be set out on Friday to ensure their removal.
Scouts also will accept donations.
Only scouts in uniform and carrying a current registration card should be given donations. People who live in apartments can put their apartment number on the tree so the scouts know where to go to collect donations. People who are not a home will find a self addressed envelope attached to their doors for mail-in donations. Do not put money or checks on trees. The donations will be used to send boys to Scout Camp.
The trees will be chipped by the Ashland Parks Department for use as landscape mulch and passive weed control.
Boy Scout Troop 535 will be operating much the same program in Talent, with tree pick-up starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Again, residents should put their trees out Friday because trees not ready by 9 a.m. may not be accepted.
