· Christine Hether, a former Ashland resident, has earned a Ph.D. with distinction in psychology from Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center in San Francisco. Hether's original research compared the moral development of students from Waldorf high schools with other private and public schools in Hawaii, California and Colorado.
Hether has a bachelor of science degree from Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind., and a master of science degree from the University of British Columbia. Hether is the mother of Evalani Barchet, an Ashland High School graduate and Ashland resident.
· Orion Hall, a senior at Ashland High School, has been named the Ashland Kiwanis youth of the month for November. Hall is a senior at AHS and received a $50 savings bond for the honor. He is also eligible for one of the $1,000 scholarships Ashland Kiwanis presents to two youth at the end of the school year.
· Ashland Middle School student Mina Shahin, the daughter of Miriam Soriano and Habib Shahin of Ashland, was recently named the Rotary Club of Ashland's Youth of the Month.
The Rotary Club's goal in selecting a youth of the month is to recognize and encourage well-rounded and outstanding achievement by youth in the community and recognize the families or other individuals who contribute to young people's success.
In her spare time, Mina Shahin likes to read and play the flute. She is interested in a career in law and hopes to become a prosecutor.
