County seeks applicants for parks advisory committee The Jackson County board of Commissioners is searching for two interested community members to vie for two openings on the county's parks and recreation advisory committee.
· `THE INSULIN FACTOR' will be presented from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Horton Plaza of Elsie Butler Hall, 1122 Spring St., Medford. Topics covered will include insulin's role in the body, how it influences blood sugars, weight, and other health risks, insulin resistance, and the "low carb craze." · SOUTHERN OREGON HISTORICAL SOCIETY'S HANLEY FARM celebrates "Native American Lifeways" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the farm. At 2 p.m. on Friday, a special story hour for kids 3 to 6 years old will be presented. Tom Smith will demonstrate flint knapping and tool making and an SOU intern will interpret an archaeology site. · LOMAKATSI RESTORATION PROJECT BENEFIT CONCERT will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at 269 N. 2nd St., Ashland. An evening of music with artist/composer Libby Goines and Friends, along with an art exhibit, refreshments, story telling and drumming will be presented.Proceeds will benefit Lomakatsi's multi-cultural ecological restoration work force training programs. · FUNDRAISER FOR THE HEARTLIGHT SCHOOL will be held Friday through Sunday at the Windmill Inn in Ashland. Registration begins at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by the evening program from 7 to 10 p.m. Activities finish at 1 p.m. Sunday. Neale Donald Walsch, best selling author of the Conversations With God trilogy, will speak on Friday.
