With respect to your lead story on July 11 about the county commissioners, and Holt in particular: He explains his vote as the result of a fit of pique, made more potent by his Irish heritage. I don't know what the Irish have done to Holt to merit this smear, but I'd like to point out that we all have tempers - bushmen and Eskimos and mongrels like me.
Grown-ups don't let their temper get the better of their wits, which seems to be what Holt is bragging about here. "Threats of a recall effort" is a perfectly legitimate way of trying to influence an elected representative - it's usually reserved for pretty serious occasions, when the constituency has concluded their rep. is no longer representing them. Trying to steer policy by electing or not electing our representatives is how representative government is supposed to work. I've long thought Holt a harmless fool, but this behavior elevates him to the status of a blot on the County Escutcheon, in the mold of Wes Cooley, and I've had enough. I'm signing the first recall petition anybody sticks under my nose. Twice.
