Community Notes · ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION will hold its 108th annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Stevenson Union on the SOU campus. The first hour will be a social hour, followed by dinner and the meeting at 6:30 p.m. From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, a coffee hour will be held at the high school quad. For reservations and information, call 482-0824. · PET EXPO SEEKS PRESENTERS for its 30 minute and one hour seminars and demonstrations on October 6 and 7 at the Jackson County Expo in Central Point. The Pet Expo is a benefit for Dogs for the Deaf and the Southern Oregon Humane Society. The expo is looking for people who have knowledge or experience in unique and interesting areas related to house pets and would like to share it with others. Formats may be either lecture/discussion or demonstration style. For information, call 826-9220. · ART SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES and the chance to be named a 2002 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts are now available to 17 or 18 year old artists through Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS). The core program of the National foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) identifies and rewards exceptional student artists from across the U.S. in the fields of dance, film and video, classical, pop and jazz music, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, and writing. The final ARTS application deadline is October 1 and the applications may be obtained through high school arts teachers, by calling 1-800-970-ARTS, or by visiting www.ARTSawards.org. · PATHWAYS PROGRAM SEEKING INSTRUCTORS at Walker Elementary School. Pathways, an after-school enrichment program, offers a variety of learning and creative activities to enhance students' interests and talents. Instructors include parents, professional musicians, actors, artists, community and staff members excited to share their skills and experiences with students in a small group environment. Three six-week sessions run throughout the school year and classes are held one day a week from 3 to 4 p.m. The fall session begins in October.
